Jasmin Jahal
Jasmin is my instructor and mentor. She is world renown and promotes oriental dance
with dignity and grace. Jasmin is an international artist of classical and folkloric dance
from the Middle East. She is the owner of the Jasmin Jahal School of Dance and teaches
authentic oriental bellydance.
Stephanie Barto and Read My Hips
Stephanie is a Chicago-based instructor and director of the American Tribal dance
troupe Read My Hips. A performance by Read My Hips includes stylistic elements
borrowed and adapted from the Middle-East, India and various other dances including
modern dance influences. A troupe of this kind is one of the first in Chicago, founded in
1997.
Erika
Erika is a Chicago-based performer and instructor. She is involved in many projects,
she's a dedicated student and teacher of oriental dance. She also has a line of unitards
that she created. Erika offers bilingual bellydance classes in Spanish and English. She
is the co-founder of Baladina Dance Company. She is also the lead of the Chicago
Branch of PURE dance troupe.
Kimahri
Kimahri is a Chicago-land area bellydance performer and instructor. She has been a
dancer for over 20 years and has a strong background in several dance styles including
ballet and Latin dance. She is the proud winner of the 2005 Golden Navel Bellydance
Competition. Kimahri also coordinates several wonderful haflas a year.
Zayna
Zayna is a Chicago-land area performer and instructor. She has been studying Belly
Dance for over 10 years and has performed at many different venues including the
Renaissance Faire and weekly at the Sphinx Cafe. She also sponsers great Haflas the
first of every month at the Sphinx Cafe.
Joette
Joette is a performer and instructor in Kalamazoo, MI. She is also the owner and founder
of the West Michigan School of Middle-Eastern Dance.
PURE
Public Urban Ritual Experiment (PURE). PURE consists of dancers and drummers who
take music and dance out into the streets in order to promote healing and peace. There
are PURE members all over the world including Chicago!
